Our Role

  • The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) provides funding for afterschool and summer school enrichment programs for transitional kindergarten through sixth grade.

“Expanded learning” means before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. It is the intent of the Legislature that expanded learning programs are pupil-centered, results-driven, include community partners, and complement, but do not replicate, learning activities in the regular school day and school year.

Within ELO-P, we partner with Think Together to provide students with academic support such as academic support and lessons that align with their curriculum to help them excel in school. But they also support students in many other ways, including physical activity, social and emotional support, and enrichment lessons to help them discover new and exciting subjects to expand their knowledge and interests. Think Together supports working families with after-school programs and also has opportunities for middle school students to attend before school.

The goal of our department is to ensure equity and access for all students to programs beyond the regular school day that will enhance their lives and excite them about learning.
