Probationary Employees
The first six months of employment is a probationary period for all classified employees, except for Security Personnel who have a 1-year probationary period. While you are on probation: Only 6 days of sick leave may be used during this period. If you are absent more than the 6 days during your probationary period, the time will be deducted from your pay warrant and your probationary period will be extended by the number of days you are out beyond those first 6 days. Vacation is not advanced until after the probationary period is complete. The balance of your earned sick leave will be available after the end of the probationary period as well.
Earned Leave (for regular employees)
Sick leave is earned at the rate of 1 day per month worked. 1 day equals the number of hours you work each day. Included in the Sick Leave balance are Personal Necessity days. 7 days may be used per year for personal necessity reasons. Vacation is earned at the rate of 1 day per month from September through June and 1.5 days per month in July and August for the first 5 years of employment. For the next 5 years it is earned at the rate of 1.3 days per month from September through June and 2 days per month in July and August. Subsequently, it is earned at the rate of 1.6 days per month September through June and 2 days per month July and August. Sick Leave (including Personal Necessity) and Vacation are shown on your pay warrant stub through June 30. Adjustments to Sick Leave and Vacation are posted on your pay warrant stub through the date shown on the paystub.
Retirement
Classified employees working 4 or more hours per day are required to contribute to CalPERS (California Public Employees' Retirement System). The employee share of CalPERS is 7% of the gross salary for "Classic Members" (before 2013) and 8% for new members (after 1/1/13).
The amount paid to CalPERS will show on your pay warrant stub:

The District also pays the employer's portion of the retirement plan.
As a Classified Employee contributing to CalPERS you will also contribute to Social Security. The contribution is 6.2% of your gross salary and the District matches that amount.
Classified employees working less than 4 hours per day are required to contribute into the APPLE Plan - an alternate for Social Security. The employee contribution to APPLE is 3.75% of the gross salary.Teamster 2 bargaining unit members: The District pays the entire 3.75% of the employee's share to APPLE. This excludes substitute employees.
Automatic Payroll Deductions
Teamster Units 1 and 2:
American Fidelity- 0.86% of gross salary, deducted on each pay warrant
Teamsters Local 911 Union Dues - the monthly dues are calculated according to the pay rate and the number of hours worked per day.
